Lassen Uses Big Fifth Inning to Defeat Siskiyous 7-2

Lassen College secured a 7-2 road victory over Siskiyous on March 23, using a five-run fifth inning to break open a tight game. The Cougars collected nine hits and took advantage of timely extra-base hits, including a home run and a triple from Mitchell Basterrechea, who drove in five runs. Lassen's offense also benefited from aggressive baserunning, swiping six stolen bases in the contest.

Pitching was a key factor for Lassen, as Kyson Goates delivered a dominant performance on the mound, throwing six shutout innings while striking out eight and allowing just four hits. Wyatt Culbertson finished the game in relief, allowing two runs over three innings but limiting Siskiyous' ability to rally. The Eagles managed nine hits but left 12 runners on base, struggling to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

Lassen took an early lead with a first-inning run but did the most damage in the fifth, scoring five times to take control of the game. Basterrechea's bases-clearing triple was the highlight of the inning, and Jack Zimmerman and Eli Hernandez each chipped in with RBIs to extend the lead. Siskiyous managed to push across single runs in the seventh and eighth innings, but the gap was too wide to overcome.

With the win, Lassen displayed a balanced attack, combining strong pitching, clutch hitting, and aggressive baserunning. The Cougars will look to build on their momentum as they continue conference play.
