Game 1: Cougars Explode Late in 14-4 Road Win at Butte

Lassen College baseball opened the Butte series with a statement, rolling to a 14-4 road win on April 13 behind 16 hits and relentless offensive pressure. The Cougars scored in seven different innings and broke the game open with four runs in the fifth before putting it away with a five-run ninth.

Jack Zimmerman set the tone immediately with a solo home run in the first and finished 3-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBIs. Mason Montoya added three hits, two doubles, two RBIs, and a stolen base, while Hayden Pietras delivered the biggest swing of the game with a three-run homer in the fifth.

Ethan Beede was also outstanding, going 2-for-4 with three runs, an RBI, and two walks. Kylan Kono added two hits, Roque Serrano drove in a run, and Jackson Rosenthal, Sam Moore, and Spencer Truebenbach all contributed RBIs as Lassen’s lineup produced from top to bottom.

On the mound, Trent Bailey was huge in relief, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings to earn the win. Kyson Goates added three strong innings, and Freeman Rountree closed the door in the ninth as Lassen finished off a dominant, complete team victory.

Game 2: Rosenthal and Beede Go Deep as Lassen Beats Butte 6-1

Lassen kept the momentum rolling on April 14 in Susanville, taking down Butte 6-1 with power hitting, clean defense, and strong pitching. The Cougars played error-free baseball and used a five-run fifth inning to take control after the game was tied 1-1.

Jackson Rosenthal got Lassen started with a solo home run in the second inning, then came through again in the fifth with a two-run single to finish with three RBIs. Ethan Beede had a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, a solo home run, and an RBI.

The fifth inning was the difference. Beede’s homer gave Lassen the lead, Damico Parker scored on a Butte error, Jack Zimmerman added a sacrifice fly, and Rosenthal’s two-run single stretched the lead to 6-1. Mason Montoya also stole a base, while Kylan Kono, Hayden Pietras, and Parker helped create pressure throughout the lineup.

Lassen’s pitching staff was excellent. Ben Lukens gave the Cougars a strong start, Noah Kimura earned the win with 2.2 scoreless innings and four strikeouts, and Caden Fowler picked up the save with three scoreless innings. With eight strikeouts, zero errors, two home runs, and clutch hitting, Lassen put together another impressive conference win.
