Cougars Sweep Siskiyous Behind Explosive Offense and Strong All-Around Play
Lassen College baseball put together one of its strongest weekends of the season, sweeping Siskiyous in three games and piling up runs in every contest. The Cougars scored 34 runs across the series, showing depth throughout the lineup, aggressive base running, and the ability to break games open with big innings.
From Friday’s fast start to Saturday’s doubleheader sweep, Lassen controlled the weekend with pressure at the plate and timely pitching. Even when Siskiyous threatened late in the series finale, the Cougars had already done enough to finish off a statement weekend at home.
Fast Start Powers Cougars Past Siskiyous, 12-6
Lassen came out aggressive from the opening inning and never gave Siskiyous much room to breathe in a 12-6 win Friday. The Cougars scored three runs in the first, added four more in the second, and kept the pressure on the rest of the way to open the series with a convincing home victory.
Kylan Kono set the tone at the top of the lineup with a huge day, going 4-for-5 and scoring three runs. Jack Zimmerman reached base repeatedly, Jackson Rosenthal scored four times and drove in two, and Damico Parker added three hits and two RBIs. Sam Moore delivered one of the biggest offensive performances of the day, driving in four runs, including a two-run double in the second inning as Lassen built an early 7-0 lead.
On the mound, Evan Rhoden gave the Cougars a strong start, working 7.2 innings and allowing five runs while keeping Lassen in control for most of the afternoon. Siskiyous chipped away with single runs in the fourth and fifth before putting together a four-run eighth, but Lassen answered throughout the game and never allowed the lead to seriously tighten.
The Cougars also did the small things well, using sacrifice flies, aggressive steals, and smart pressure on the bases to create scoring opportunities. Lassen finished with 16 hits, stole multiple bases, and played error-free baseball in a complete performance that set the tone for the rest of the weekend.
Seven-Run Third Sends Lassen Rolling in 13-1 Win
In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, Lassen turned a close game into a blowout with a seven-run third inning and cruised to a 13-1 victory in seven innings. After falling behind 1-0, the Cougars responded immediately and overwhelmed Siskiyous with timely hitting and relentless pressure.
The big third inning featured production up and down the lineup. Sam Moore tied the game after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Jackson Rosenthal ripped a two-run single, Mason Montoya added a sacrifice fly, Ethan Beede knocked in another run, and Roque Serrano capped the frame with an RBI groundout. By the end of the inning, Lassen had turned a one-run deficit into a 7-1 lead and fully seized momentum.
Caden Fowler was outstanding on the mound, tossing a complete-game seven-inning effort and allowing just one run on three hits while striking out five. He kept Siskiyous off balance all afternoon and gave Lassen exactly the kind of steady start it needed to let the offense take over.
The Cougars kept adding on from there. Kylan Kono launched a two-run homer in the fifth, Easton Curtis drove in a run, and Spencer Truebenbach drew a bases-loaded walk as Lassen kept the line moving. The combination of efficient pitching, patient at-bats, and opportunistic offense made it one of Lassen’s most complete wins of the season.
Cougars Hold Off Late Push to Complete Sweep, 9-7
The series finale brought the most drama of the weekend, but Lassen did enough early and held on late to finish the sweep with a 9-7 win. The Cougars built a comfortable lead through the middle innings, then survived a late Siskiyous rally to cap off a perfect weekend.
Lassen struck first with three runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Easton Curtis and an RBI hit from Jason Borzello. The Cougars kept building from there, getting RBIs from Jackson Rosenthal and Ethan Beede in the third, then a solo home run from Sam Moore in the fifth pushed the lead to 6-0. Rosenthal continued his strong weekend with three hits and three runs scored, while Damico Parker reached base and created problems with his speed.
Ben Lukens gave Lassen a solid start, going five innings and allowing just two runs. Trent Bailey followed with a scoreless sixth, and Kyson Goates came on for the final three innings. Siskiyous finally broke through in the ninth, scoring five runs, but a large part of that rally came after defensive breaks rather than clean damage, and Lassen still had enough cushion to close it out.
Mason Montoya and Hayden Pietras delivered key insurance runs in the seventh, which proved critical once Siskiyous made its final push. In the end, Lassen’s early offense, strong middle innings, and enough poise late helped seal the sweep. It was the kind of weekend that showed the Cougars’ ability to win in different ways while building momentum in conference play.
