Cougars Advance: Lassen Powers Past Solano in Playoff Opener

Facing postseason pressure with their season on the line, Lassen College delivered one of its biggest wins of the year on May 1, defeating Solano College 9-6 to advance in the playoffs. The victory sends the Cougars on to face the winner of the Ohlone-Solano matchup as Lassen continued its late-season surge with another explosive offensive performance.

After jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, the Cougars briefly fell behind when Solano plated four runs in the third inning. Lassen immediately answered. Jackson Rosenthal brought home a run in the bottom half before Hayden Pietras tied the game in the fourth with an RBI double. Then came the decisive fifth inning, when Caden Fowler launched a massive three-run home run to swing momentum firmly back to the Cougars. Moments later, Pietras followed with a solo blast of his own as Lassen opened up an 8-4 advantage and never looked back.

The heart of the lineup delivered all afternoon. Pietras finished with two hits, including a homer and double, while driving in three runs. Fowler also knocked in three with his go-ahead home run, and Rosenthal added two hits and two RBIs. Kylan Kono tripled and scored, Damico Parker scored twice and stole two bases, and Mason Montoya continued Lassen’s aggressive baserunning attack with another stolen base. The Cougars totaled 11 hits and consistently pressured Solano defensively throughout the game.

Lassen’s bullpen proved equally important in securing the playoff victory. Noah Kimura earned the win with 2.2 strong innings in relief, helping stabilize the game after the rough third inning. Trent Bailey was outstanding down the stretch, striking out five over three scoreless innings before Fowler returned to the mound to record the final out and secure the save. With the victory, the Cougars kept their postseason run alive and moved one step closer to a deep playoff push.
