Final Non-Conference Game for the Cougs
Lassen 10, Yuba 1 (Feb. 22)
Lassen closed out non-conference play with authority, turning a tight early game into a dominant 10–1 road victory over Yuba. After trailing 1–0 through four innings, the Cougars methodically took control, scoring in four of the final five frames while piling up 14 hits and playing clean defense behind a deep pitching effort.
The breakthrough came in the fifth and sixth innings, where Lassen strung together disciplined at-bats and situational execution. Roque Serrano sparked the offense with a 2-for-4, two-RBI performance, while Damico Parker and Izach Benavidez added key run-producing swings. The Cougars were aggressive and smart on the bases, swiping 10 stolen bases to constantly pressure Yuba’s defense and turn singles into scoring opportunities.
The exclamation point came from Mason Montoya, who delivered a huge day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Hayden Pietras added a clutch two-run double, and Kylan Kono reached three times, scored three runs, and drove in another to keep the lineup turning over. Lassen’s offense blended power, speed, and situational execution in one of its most complete performances of the season.
On the mound, the Cougar staff locked things down after allowing a first-inning run. The bullpen combined to hold Yuba scoreless over the final eight innings, limiting traffic and stranding runners when needed. Backed by error-free defense and multiple double plays, Lassen finished non-conference play on a high note, carrying momentum and confidence into the heart of conference competition.
