Cougars Show Firepower and Fight in Competitive Week of Road Battles

Game 1: Lassen 10, Shasta 1

The Cougars put together one of their most complete performances of the season in the opener, rolling to a 10–1 win behind timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and dominant pitching.

Lassen struck early with a three-run second inning and added two more in the fourth before breaking it open with a five-run seventh. Sam Moore led the offensive charge, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Caden Fowler added two hits and an RBI, while Jackson Rosenthal chipped in a two-RBI double. Kylan Kono continued his steady play with two hits and two RBI of his own.

The Cougars executed situational baseball all afternoon, recording four sacrifice bunts and consistently moving runners. They finished with 12 hits, five walks, and zero strikeouts, applying constant pressure to the Shasta pitching staff.

On the mound, Ben Lukens earned the win with five strong innings, allowing just one run on five hits. He was backed by shutdown relief from Trent Bailey (three scoreless innings) and Daniel Perez, who struck out two in a clean ninth. The Cougar staff allowed just five hits and did not issue a walk, while the defense played error-free baseball.

Game 2: Shasta 9, Lassen 1

The nightcap flipped the script, as Shasta’s offense jumped on Lassen early and never let the Cougars settle in. Shasta collected 17 hits and built steady momentum through the first six innings.

Lassen managed eight hits offensively but struggled to convert opportunities into runs. Damico Parker and Sam Moore each had two hits, while Ethan Beede scored the Cougars’ lone run. Roque Serrano drove in the only RBI of the game for Lassen.

Shasta’s offense did its damage early against the Cougar pitching staff, scoring in five of the first six innings. Starter Caden Fowler took the loss, with multiple relievers working to stabilize the game. Kyson Goates provided a bright spot late, tossing two scoreless innings to close things out.

Despite the loss, the split keeps Lassen competitive as they continue navigating conference play. The opener showed the Cougars’ ability to dominate in all phases, while the second game highlighted areas for adjustment as the season moves forward.
