Quincy Rodeo Results
The Lassen College men's and women's Rodeo team traveled to Quincy for the first day of a two-day rodeo.
The morning was cold and foggy but several Cougars still managed to shine. Saddle Bronc rodeo Freshman Tristan Naccarato covered his bronc to place third. Sophomore Chance Collins took second in calf roping. Tyler Bundy and sophomore Carson Williams placed seventh and sixth in steer wrestling. Freshman Bryor Minton took seventh in team roping. Bull riding ended up being a tough event with sophomores Ray Mayo and Cody Alexander taking second and third place honors. Lassen men finished third.
Day two was led by Lassen rookie cowboy Kawena Esperas. Esperas, originally from Hawaii, in only his second rodeo of his career, won the first round of the steer wrestling. He did it with a second run time of 4.6 seconds, coming back to the short round in first place. "Kawena looked like a veteran while making the fastest time by a full 2 seconds," said LCC Men's Head Coach Dan Williams. Teammate Minton placed second behind Esperas. Mayo looking to make his second trip to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR), took second in bull riding as well. Bundy has already punched his ticket to the CNFR but held on to his second ranking in the region by taking second in bareback riding.
Lassen Women Rodeo team was led by Hailey Finnegan and her third-place finish in barrel racing, riding her "Horse of the Year" Beach Cat. Teammate Massey Minton won eighth in the event as well. All the efforts led the Lady Cougars to a third place finish. "But the big story was sophomore Josie Collins. Collins managed a 6.8 in her second to finish third in goat tying in her first rodeo," commented Head Coach Suzanne Williams.
On day two the LCC Women finished sixth. Finnegan was the only Lady Cougar to win points, finishing fifth in the barrels.
