Men's rodeo shows great promise in 2021 campaign

The entire Lassen College men's rodeo team is filled with freshmen, thanks mainly to the outbreak of COVID-19 just as the 2020 season was kicking off. Despite being young, the team is packed with talent and experience.

"I have a young team, but I couldn't be more excited about their future," said LCC men's rodeo coach Dan Williams.

Among the freshmen are a state champion steer wrestler, Chace Green, and a professionally ranked bull rider, Cody Russell. Green and his horse "Rusty" were members of the Nevada State Champion steer wrestling team. At LCC, he competes in steer wrestling, team roping, and tie-down roping events.

Russell not only competes on the college level as a bull rider but is also competing in the professional ranks. He also serves as the regional student director for the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association's (NIRA) bull riding events.

Susanville local standout, Jack Mallery competes in the team roping event.

The team opens its 2021 season in the Central Valley on March 23-25.
