Mendocino Breaks Down Lassen's Game Plan

Lassen College followed the game plan designed by Head Coach Juan Paolo, but Mendocino was able to dismantle the defense in the second half and run away with a 3-0 shutout over the visiting Cougars.

Lassen's game plan was to deny Mendocino the ball in their backline and force punts and long balls, which was the only way they could get to a goal. Everything that Mendocino did to try and create an attack in the first half failed and the half ended scoreless.

In the second half, Lassen started off very aggressive on offense, creating a few opportunities for a score. The closest came on a one on one against the keeper that went just a few inches away from the back post.

With Lassen controlling the action, on a counter-attack, Mendocino was able to go up 1-0. Lassen continued its aggressiveness all over the field, but in the last five minutes, Mendocino was able to find the back of the net two more times.

"I am very happy with the way we played today," said Paolo. "Everyone did exactly what I asked for, and even though we ended winless in the preseason, I truly believe we will surprise teams in the conference. The guys are starting to believe in themselves, which is what I have been asking them from day one."
