Cougars defeated by Modesto, 2-0

The Lassen men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat on the road against Modesto College on Tuesday, September 28.

Modesto, coming off a 4-1 record, was eager to continue their winning streak and came out with great energy and excitement. As the first half progressed, the Cougars took hold of the game and started executing passes into dangerous areas on the pitch that generated goal-scoring opportunities.

Unfortunately, late in the first half, Lassen striker Will Wray went down with an ankle sprain forcing the Cougars to make substitutions in the following half.

The second half started as a goalless draw, propelling the Cougars to push their numbers forward in an effort to break the deadlock. Their forward press left them with an exposed backline that the Pirates were able to use to their advantage.

Near the 70^th minute, Modesto's striker scored the first goal of the match, giving their side a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Modesto would repeat their efforts on the goal, through a wonderfully timed cross by their winger that would bring the match to a 2-0 scoreline with fifteen minutes left in the game.

"I was pleased with our team's effort and the way they responded to a well-organized Modesto side," said Head Coach Alex Machin. "We didn't come home with the result we wanted nor anticipated, however, this experience is a great opportunity to build character and personality amongst these young men and cultivate a culture of success that we're trying to build for years to come."

The Cougars will face Feather River College on Friday, October 1at 12 pm.
