Momentum halted in home game defeat

The Cougars men's soccer team hosted their first home game in more than two years on Friday, October 1 to Feather River College. Lassen went head-to-head with FRC through the first half, but was unable to take advantage of the home field advantage, falling to the Golden Eagles, 5-2.

As the first half got under way, both teams were generating chances in front of goal and had several opportunities to score. At the 11th minute of the first half, Lassen pressed high against the back line of Feather River forcing a dangerous back pass to their goalkeeper that was missed and counted as an own goal, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead. The advantage was short-lived as the Golden Eagles scored an equalizing goal and went into half-time with the game at 1-1.

As the second half began, Lassen's momentum was halted by two quick goals from the Golden Eagles. Feather River built upon their goal advantage by scoring three more goals. The Cougars were able to find another goal through Caik Silva in the 85th minute but the deficit was too large to make a comeback victory.

"The result wasn't what we wanted," said Head Coach Alex Machin. "We were met with a good and challenging opponent for our opening home game. Now, it's time to reflect on what worked and didn't work for us through the match, and change the things we can before our next game."

The Cougars will host College of the Redwoods this Friday, October, 8 at 12pm.
