Lassen Rallies Late to Edge Butte in Extra Innings

Lassen College staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Butte College 5-4 in extra innings on March 19. Trailing 4-0 entering the seventh, Lassen capitalized on key defensive miscues by Butte to tie the game before pushing across the winning run in the ninth. The Cougars collected 13 hits in the contest, while pitcher Lauren Emery went the distance to secure the victory.

Butte built its lead with a run in the first, another in the fourth, and a two-run double from Nyah Baker in the fifth. The Roadrunners appeared in control until Lassen's offense broke through in the seventh. A costly error allowed Abby Robles to score, followed by RBI hits from Andie Wood and Shea Jones to even the game at 4-4. In the ninth, Tristyn Lenz delivered the game-winning single, driving in Nadia Velazquez.

Emery provided a steady presence in the circle, throwing all nine innings while allowing four earned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts. Despite falling behind early, she kept Butte scoreless over the final four frames, giving her team a chance to complete the comeback. Butte's Cabria Childers also went the distance, surrendering five unearned runs while striking out four.

Offensively, Lassen saw multi-hit performances from Jones, Wood, Lenz, and Lily Fitzpatrick. Velazquez scored twice, including the decisive run in extra innings. The win marks another resilient performance for Lassen, who will look to carry this momentum into their next contest.
