Lassen Falls to Butte in Tight 3-2 Battle

Lassen College came up just short against Butte College, dropping a 3-2 contest on March 19 in a tightly contested game. The Cougars struck first with two runs in the third inning, but Butte responded in the fourth with a three-run rally that ultimately decided the game. Lassen pitcher Abby Lynn kept her team within striking distance, allowing three earned runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings, but the Cougars were unable to produce the late-game offense needed to reclaim the lead.

Andie Wood put Lassen on the board in the third, driving in Taylor Lauritsen with an RBI single. A defensive miscue by Butte then allowed Wood to score, giving the Cougars a 2-0 advantage. Lauritsen led the offense, finishing 3-for-3 at the plate, while Lexee Larranaga added a double. Despite collecting seven hits overall, Lassen struggled to capitalize on additional scoring opportunities, stranding six runners on base.

Butte answered quickly in the fourth, taking advantage of timely hitting and a couple of wild pitches. Taryn Walsh delivered a two-run double to tie the game, and Nicole Grupe followed with an RBI single to give Butte a 3-2 lead. The Roadrunners managed nine hits in the game, with Taylor Jones also contributing a multi-hit performance. Pitcher Nyah Baker was steady in the circle, striking out one while scattering seven hits in a complete-game effort.

Despite the loss, Lassen showed resilience and strong pitching, with Lynn keeping the game within reach. The Cougars' defense turned a key double play, helping limit further damage, but two errors proved costly. Lassen will look to bounce back in its next matchup as they continue conference play.
