Kay Tosses No-Hitter as Lassen Shuts Out Mendocino 8-0

Lassen College dominated Mendocino in an 8-0 victory on March 22, highlighted by a stellar no-hit performance from pitcher Anndria Kay. Kay was nearly untouchable, striking out three and allowing just one walk in five innings of work. The Cougars backed her up with a strong offensive performance, collecting nine hits and scoring in three different innings to secure the run-rule win.

Lassen jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Andie Wood ripped an RBI double and later scored on a Mendocino error. The Cougars broke the game open in the third, plating five runs behind extra-base hits from Wood and Tristyn Lenz. Wood finished the day 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and two RBIs, while Lenz and Lily Fitzpatrick each drove in a run.

The Cougars tacked on one more run in the fifth as Taylor Lauritsen singled home Emma Wayas to make it 8-0. With Lassen’s offense firing on all cylinders and Kay in complete control, the game ended early via the mercy rule. Nadia Velazquez and Wood also contributed stolen bases, keeping the pressure on Mendocino’s defense throughout the game.

Mendocino struggled to generate any offense, as Kay kept them off balance from start to finish. The Eagles’ lone baserunner came on a second-inning walk, but Lassen’s defense ensured no further opportunities. The Cougars will look to build on their dominant performance as they continue conference play.
