Lassen College’s softball team dominated American River 12-7 on March 8, riding a potent offensive performance and strong pitching to secure the win. The Cougars started slow, but they broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning and never looked back. The offensive explosion was fueled by a combination of timely hitting and aggressive baserunning, with Lassen finishing the game with 11 hits, including multiple players contributing key RBIs. Tristyn Lenz and Lexee Larranaga were standouts, each driving in two runs, while Lenz’s bat sparked a crucial rally.
Lassen’s offense was led by a balanced attack that included strong performances from Shea Jones, Lenz, and Lily Fitzpatrick, all of whom finished with multi-hit games. Lenz’s three hits, including a double, were key in putting pressure on American River’s pitchers. Lexee Larranaga also helped push the lead with a pair of RBIs, while Fitzpatrick added two RBIs of her own. Despite striking out 11 times, the Cougars capitalized on scoring opportunities to push across runs and keep American River on their heels.
On the mound, Anndria Kay picked up the win with 4 solid innings of work, allowing three earned runs while striking out three and walking just one. Abby Lynn struggled in relief, giving up four runs in less than an inning, but Lauren Emery came in to close out the game with 2.1 scoreless innings, securing the victory for Lassen. Emery’s strong finish helped seal the win, as she allowed just one hit and struck out one.
American River fought hard, with standout performances from Felesha Lapenske and Lindsay Paredes, who each homered in the game. Lapenske added two RBIs to her performance, while Paredes drove in two as well. However, despite 10 hits and multiple scoring opportunities, American River could not overcome Lassen’s offensive onslaught, dropping the game 12-7.
