Lassen Takes Down Mendocino 5-2 Behind Emery’s Strong Outing

Lassen College picked up a solid 5-2 victory over Mendocino on March 22, backed by a dominant pitching performance from Lauren Emery. The right-hander tossed a complete game, allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out three. Lassen’s offense broke through in the third inning and never looked back, securing another home win.

Mendocino briefly took control in the second inning, capitalizing on a defensive miscue and an RBI hit from Rosaria Gutierrez to go up 2-0. But the lead didn’t last long, as Lassen responded in the third with a three-run rally. Andie Wood got things started with an RBI double, followed by key hits from Shea Jones and Emma Wayas to put the Cougars ahead.

Lassen added two more insurance runs in the fifth when Jones doubled and later scored on a Mendocino error. Wayas followed with a triple, driving in another run to extend the lead to 5-2. Jones led the offense with two hits, while Wood, Lauritsen, Velazquez, Prescott, and Wayas each contributed a hit in the seven-hit performance.

Emery remained in control throughout the game, keeping Mendocino’s lineup quiet after the second inning. Despite three defensive errors, Lassen’s defense held firm in key moments, sealing the win. The Cougars will look to keep their momentum going as they prepare for their next matchup in conference play.
