Lassen Takes Down Ohlone in 7-5 Victory
The Lassen College softball team secured a well-earned 7-5 victory over Ohlone College on Saturday, using a strong start and clutch late-inning offense to claim the win. The Cougars jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and added another run in the second to build a cushion. Ohlone fought back with single runs in the second and fourth before a three-run fifth inning tied the game at 5-5. However, Lassen responded in the sixth with two more runs and tacked on an insurance run in the seventh to seal the win.
Lassen’s offense came alive with 10 hits on the day, led by Taylor Lauritsen, who recorded two hits, including a triple, and an RBI. Andie Wood also contributed at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Lexee Larranaga and Bella Giessner each drove in runs. The Cougars took advantage of Ohlone’s defensive struggles, as three errors helped extend innings and create additional scoring opportunities. Lily Fitzpatrick added a key double, continuing her strong presence in the lineup.
On the mound, Wood delivered a gritty complete-game performance, allowing just five hits while striking out four and walking four. Despite a tough fifth inning where Ohlone capitalized on timely hitting, Wood settled in to shut down the Renegades over the final two frames. Lassen’s defense played a solid game, turning a key double play and minimizing mistakes to keep the game under control.
With this win, Lassen demonstrated its ability to stay composed in a back-and-forth battle. The Cougars’ ability to capitalize on offensive chances and execute in crucial moments helped them secure the victory. They will look to build on this momentum in their next contest as they continue their season.
