Lassen College Shuts Out Shasta in Dominant 9-0 Victory

Lassen College’s softball team put on an impressive performance Friday, shutting out Shasta College 9-0 in a five-inning contest. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning and never looking back. Leadoff hitter Nadia Velazquez set the tone with two home runs, driving in three runs while scoring three times herself. Pitcher Lauren Emery was equally dominant, allowing just two hits and striking out five in the complete-game shutout.

The Cougars added two more runs in the second and three in the third, extending their lead to 9-0. Lily Fitzpatrick contributed to the offensive explosion with a double and three RBIs, while Cambree Prescott and Lexee Larranaga each added an RBI. Lassen’s patience at the plate resulted in six walks, further pressuring Shasta’s defense. Emery kept the Knights' bats quiet, allowing only two singles, both from Joci Bertain.

Shasta struggled to generate any offense, as Lassen’s defense played a clean game with zero errors. Shasta pitcher Morgan Bourke had difficulty containing Lassen’s lineup, surrendering seven hits and eight earned runs over four innings. The Knights’ lone bright spot was Bertain, who recorded both of her team’s hits, but Shasta was unable to advance any runners into scoring position.

With the win, Lassen showcased its offensive firepower and pitching depth, setting a strong tone for the season. The Cougars will look to build on this dominant performance as they continue conference play, while Shasta aims to regroup and find momentum in their next matchup.
