Cougars Explode for 27 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep of Yuba

Lassen College continued its dominant conference push on April 17 with an offensive explosion against Yuba College, sweeping the doubleheader by scores of 17-1 and 10-6. The Cougars pounded out 25 total hits across the two games while receiving strong performances throughout the lineup to improve their conference standing heading into the final stretch of the season.

Lassen Opens Series with 17-Run Offensive Showcase

The Cougar offense wasted no time getting rolling in game one, erupting for five runs in the opening inning before cruising to a 17-1 mercy-rule victory. Lassen scored in every inning and finished with 14 hits while drawing 10 walks in one of its most complete offensive performances of the season.

Jenna Ku led the attack with three hits and three RBIs, including a pair of triples, while Lilinoe Kuhaulua-Leong added three hits and two RBIs of her own. Taylor Lauritsen contributed two RBIs, Zoey Heffelfinger drove in two more runs, and Dani Martinez added a pair of hits off the bench. Nearly every Cougar in the lineup found a way to contribute offensively as Lassen consistently pressured Yuba with aggressive baserunning and disciplined at-bats.

Abby Lynn dominated inside the circle, allowing just one hit over five innings while striking out six. The Cougar defense backed her up throughout the afternoon, helping secure the run-rule victory and complete one of Lassen’s strongest all-around performances of conference play.

Cougars Rally Late to Complete the Sweep

Game two proved to be much more competitive early on, but Lassen once again delivered in the late innings to finish off the sweep with a 10-6 victory. After building an early 3-0 lead, the Cougars found themselves trailing after Yuba scored six runs over the second and third innings. Lassen responded immediately, however, shutting Yuba down the rest of the way while erupting offensively in the sixth inning.

Taylor Lauritsen delivered another huge game offensively, collecting two hits and three RBIs, while Lilinoe Kuhaulua-Leong scored three times and added an RBI. Jhan'z Kaawa-Kawai recorded two hits, and Jenna Ku contributed an RBI double as the Cougars totaled 11 hits in the win.

Ramona Ryder was outstanding in relief, entering during the third inning and completely changing the momentum of the game. Ryder tossed 4.2 scoreless innings while striking out four and allowing only three hits to earn the victory. Lassen’s offense then exploded for five runs in the sixth inning to break the game open and secure the conference sweep.
