Cold Shooting Hampers Cougars in Conference Opener Against Siskiyous
The Lassen College women’s basketball team opened Golden Valley Conference play on January 7 at the Bob Genasci Sports Complex, falling to Siskiyous 78-57.
The Cougars battled on the glass all night, finishing with 44 rebounds, but struggled offensively, shooting 27.9% from the field and just 2-of-32 (6.3%) from three-point range. After trailing 10-3 at the end of the first quarter, Lassen fought to stay within reach but a 30-point second quarter by Siskiyous created separation heading into halftime.
Kyleigh Flux led the Cougars with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Miliani Crosno added 10 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double effort. Kiana Rodriguez chipped in eight points, and Rachel Ply contributed seven points and eight boards. Despite the shooting struggles, Lassen continued to compete defensively, recording 11 steals and three blocks.
Siskiyous controlled the boards 50-44 and capitalized at the free throw line, attempting 29 free throws. While the final score did not reflect the Cougars’ effort, the team’s rebounding and defensive energy provide building blocks as conference play continues.
