Cougars Edge Feather River in Defensive Battle, 58-56
The Lassen College women’s basketball team earned a hard-fought 58-56 home victory over Feather River on February 4 at the Bob Genasci Sports Complex, picking up a key Golden Valley Conference win. In a tightly contested game that featured five ties and multiple lead changes, the Cougars held firm down the stretch to secure the two-point victory.
Meiyah Oats led the way with 21 points and eight rebounds, attacking the rim and converting key free throws late. Alizah Lara added 11 points, five rebounds, and three steals, while Claudia Garcia-Juarez contributed nine points and six rebounds off the bench. Miliani Crosno added seven rebounds, helping Lassen finish with a 40-35 advantage on the glass.
The Cougars shot 31.7% from the field but made timely plays defensively, holding Feather River to 35.8% shooting and just 5-of-29 (17.2%) from three-point range. Lassen also capitalized at the free throw line, converting 12-of-19 attempts. In a game defined by grit and effort, the Cougars’ defensive intensity and rebounding toughness proved to be the difference as they improved to 2-4 in conference play.
