Redwoods Pulls Away in Second Half, Defeats Cougars
The Lassen College women’s basketball team fell to Redwoods 80-56 on January 24 at the Bob Genasci Sports Complex in Golden Valley Conference play. After trailing just 33-20 at halftime, the Cougars were unable to slow Redwoods’ third-quarter surge, as the Corsairs outscored Lassen 24-12 in the period to create separation.
Miliani Crosno led the Cougars with 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting, while Meiyah Oats added 11 points and five rebounds. Rachel Ply anchored the paint with 10 rebounds and three steals, and Kiana Rodriguez provided an efficient nine points off the bench, shooting 4-of-5 from the field. Lassen finished with 16 offensive rebounds and 37 total boards, continuing to compete physically inside.
However, shooting struggles persisted as the Cougars shot 30.8% from the field and just 2-of-17 (11.8%) from three-point range. Redwoods capitalized on turnovers and balanced scoring, placing five players in double figures and finishing with 21 assists. Despite a strong fourth quarter effort, Lassen was unable to overcome the third-quarter deficit as conference play continued.
