Lassen Women’s Basketball Splits at Shasta College Classic
Game 1 Recap: Cold Third Quarter Costs Lassen Against Solano
Final Score: Solano 76, Lassen 53
Lassen opened the Classic against a well-rounded Solano team that capitalized on second-chance opportunities and a dominant third quarter to take control of the game. Despite trailing by just 7 points at halftime (34–27), the Cougars were outscored 28–8 in the third period, and could never recover.
Offensively, Lassen struggled to find consistency, shooting just 28.6% from the field and 21.7% from three-point range. Turnovers also played a major role, as the Cougars gave the ball away 29 times, leading to numerous fast-break opportunities for Solano.
Alizah Lara led the way with 10 points, knocking down two three-pointers, while Miliani Crosno posted a double-digit rebounding effort with 11 boards to go along with 7 points. Freshman Meiyah Oats added 8 points and 7 rebounds off the bench, showing promise in the paint. However, Lassen was simply overmatched on the boards and in transition, with Solano pulling down 53 total rebounds and tallying 21 steals.
The loss underscored Lassen’s need to improve ball security and get better shot selection. But it also set the stage for a strong response in Game 2.
Game 2 Recap: Lassen Dominates Yuba with Complete Team Effort
Final Score: Lassen 72, Yuba 46
The Cougars bounced back in emphatic fashion against Yuba, delivering one of their most complete performances of the season. Lassen controlled the game from start to finish, winning every quarter and outscoring Yuba by 26 points overall.
Miliani Crosno led the scoring with a season-high 21 points on 9-of-18 shooting, including three three-pointers, while also grabbing 6 rebounds. Sophomore Kyleigh Flux provided a major boost off the bench, scoring 18 points on an efficient 7-of-10 from the field, hitting 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Starting guards Nisa Rodriguez and Claudia Garcia-Juarez added 8 points each, combining for 11 rebounds and 8 assists.
Lassen’s defense was much sharper in this contest, forcing 25 turnovers and holding Yuba to 33.3% shooting. The Cougars moved the ball well on offense, recording 20 assists, and improved on the boards with a 36-37 rebounding margin, including 15 offensive rebounds that led to crucial second-chance points.
Perhaps most importantly, Lassen drastically reduced its turnovers from the night before—cutting them from 29 to just 14—while still pushing the tempo and maintaining offensive rhythm. The win was a testament to the team’s ability to adjust, refocus, and play as a unit.
