Lassen women's basketball faces tough tests at 2nd annual Jeanne Calamar Classic
Game 1: Sierra Overwhelms Lassen With Depth and Pressure
Final Score: Sierra 88, Lassen 44
December 11, 2025
The Cougars opened the weekend against a dominant Sierra College squad that used depth, rebounding, and aggressive perimeter defense to overpower Lassen, 88–44. From the opening tip, Sierra set the tone, racing out to a 25–8 first-quarter lead and never looking back. By halftime, Lassen trailed by 24, and despite showing some fight late, the deficit proved insurmountable.
Lassen struggled on both ends of the court. Offensively, the Cougars shot just 23.7% from the field and 25% from beyond the arc, while turning the ball over 28 times, many of which led to fast-break points for Sierra. Defensively, Lassen had no answer for Sierra's balanced attack, which featured four double-digit scorers and 59 team rebounds, including 23 on the offensive glass.
Bright spots for Lassen included Meiyah Oats, who led the team with 12 points, and Kyleigh Flux, who came off the bench to chip in 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting. Alizah Lara added 11 points with three made threes. Still, it wasn’t enough to keep pace with a Sierra team that looked every bit like a postseason contender.
Game 2: Trade-Tech’s Bol Drops 41 as Cougars Struggle Again
Final Score: LA Trade-Tech 77, Lassen 39
December 12, 2025
In their second matchup of the weekend, Lassen ran into a buzzsaw in the form of Athieng Bol, who scored a stunning 41 points on 14-of-17 shooting to lead LA Trade-Tech past the Cougars in a lopsided 77–39 win. Bol’s physicality and efficiency overwhelmed Lassen inside, and she also connected on two threes while shooting 11-of-12 from the free-throw line.
As a team, Lassen once again had trouble offensively, shooting just 24.1% from the floor and 15.4% from three-point range. The Cougars scored only 6 points in the second quarter, allowing Trade-Tech to build a 22-point halftime lead. Things didn't get much better in the second half, as the Cougars were outscored in every quarter.
Miliani Crosno led Lassen with 8 points, while Alizah Lara and Meiyah Oats added 5 and 7 points respectively. However, the team couldn’t match the intensity or shot-making of Trade-Tech, who shot 48.1% from the field and dominated the boards, 46–29.
Turnovers (22) and missed opportunities at the free-throw line (7-of-15) again plagued Lassen, who appeared to be pressing as the game slipped away. The lack of ball movement and stagnant offensive sets made it difficult for the Cougars to find a rhythm.
Game 3: Better Fight, Same Result in Loss to Cosumnes River
Final Score: Cosumnes River 72, Lassen 55
December 14, 2025
In their final game of the Classic, the Cougars turned in a more competitive performance against host Cosumnes River College, but still came up short in a 72–55 defeat. Lassen put together improved stretches of play, particularly in the second quarter where they matched Cosumnes River with 18 points, but were ultimately undone by turnovers (21) and inconsistent shooting.
Meiyah Oats was a bright spot for the Cougars, scoring a team-high 13 points while grabbing 5 rebounds. Rachel Ply had her best offensive game of the season with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting, and Claudia Garcia-Juarez was a force on the glass, pulling down 10 rebounds and going 7-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Lassen shot a more respectable 35.1% from the field and 73.3% from the line, but were again held to just 4 made threes on 20 attempts. On the other side, Cosumnes River’s Charisse Echano scored 22 points, and the Hawks used a balanced scoring effort and aggressive defense to close the game out.
Despite the loss, Lassen showed more offensive cohesion and defensive energy in this matchup. It was a step forward in execution, but the team still needs to limit turnovers and improve perimeter shooting to compete with top-tier programs.
