Cougar wrestling opens season at Sac City Invite

The Lassen College Wrestling team opened the season on September 17 at the Sacramento City College Invitational. Inexperience and a young team proved to be a huge obstacle for the Cougs. The Cougs struggled to get a win and used the invitational as a building block.

All seven grapplers saw mat time but were able to get a win. Host Sac City took first for the tournamento out of 20 teams.

"It was a real tough weekend, but the experience we got will really pay off down the road," said Head Coach Lonnie Nalls.

On September 22, the Cougars traveled to West Hills College-Lemoore for their first dual meet and second tournament of the year.

Lucas Prinz (133) and Kale Kreller (285) each won a match. Ivan Torres (133), Isiah Franco (141)  both went 5-2 on the weekend and were a match away from placing in the top eight. Maximo Fernandez (285) went 3-3 and Ivan Torres was awarded Wrestler of the Week by Nalls.

"There was much improvement from last week," said Nalls. "I was very proud of their effort and expect to keep improving as the season continues."

The Cougars travel to Chabot College for a dual match and Modesto Junior College for a tournament on October 7-8.
