Torres and Fernandez carry Cougs at Northern Duals

When Lassen Wrestling participated in the Northern Regional Duals at Sierra College in Rocklin a few weeks, they did so with half their team. Plagued with a string of illnesses and injuries since the start of the season, the young team has been tested beyond normal competition in every dual. The Cougars lost their three duals, 30-18 to Sierra College, 30-12 to Shasta College and 36-15 to Santa Rosa College.

Ivan Torres (133) went 4-0 on the day picking up an extra match, Maximo Fernandez (197) went 3-0 on the day and Kale Kreller (285) finished 1-1 with one forfeit.

With the numbers as they are, Lassen will not be in contention to win any of their duals per the rules, but they will get matches and be able to compete.

"Overall, it wasn't a bad day," said Head Coach Lonnie Nalls. "Our guys were able to get matches and competed. We are working towards individual goals, which is making it to the state tourney and placing. The wrestlers are working hard to improve and that is key to their individual success in December where it all counts. We are a proud program with a lot of history and want to make an impact this year no matter how small it may be."

The Cougars will be on the mat next at Simpson College on Saturday, October 29.
