September was the start of the season for the Lassen College men's Wrestling team and an opportunity to see the outcome of all the hard work that was put in since August. Things started with the Sac City Invite, where the Cougars finished 10th, with freshman Dustin Merlos placing 2nd at 133 pounds and several other athletes making it deep into the tournament.
Tobias Larson, 149 pounds, Kale Kreller, 197 pounds, and Prince Ganious, 197 pounds, were all one match away from placing. The Cougars were in the mix all day, just 9 points from the 6th place finisher.
Next up was the Golden Eagle Invite, where the Cougars finished 13th after being as high as seventh most of the day. Dustin Merlos, 133 pounds, placed 2nd, and Prince Ganious, 197 pounds, placed 7th. Like the week before, Lassen had three Wrestlers lose one match before the placing rounds, knocking them down to the 13th slot.
"Overall, I am pleased with the way our athletes are competing. We are in the mix, and I expect big things at the end of the season from my wrestlers as long as we stay healthy," added head coach Lonnie Nalls.
