Cougars Take Third at NorCal Regionals, Send 12 Wrestlers to 3C2A State Championships
The Lassen College men’s wrestling team delivered an outstanding performance at the 3C2A NorCal Regional Championships, finishing third overall and qualifying 12 wrestlers for the upcoming 3C2A State Championships at Sierra College. Competing against many of the top programs in Northern California, the Cougars showcased depth, grit, and determination across every weight class.
Leading the way was Joshua Cortez (184 lbs), who captured the NorCal regional championship, earning a first-place finish in a tough bracket. Strong podium performances also came from Evan Krantz (149 lbs) with a runner-up finish and Troy Valentine (125 lbs) and Emmanuel Alatorre (141 lbs), who each placed third. Additional state qualifiers included Alex Osborne (133 lbs), Mitchell Miller (141 lbs), Kaleb Gomez (157 lbs), Jason Valencia (165 lbs), Ethan Gonzalez (165 lbs), Conor Boyle (174 lbs), Chris Wells (197 lbs), and Cesar Lopez (285 lbs), giving Lassen representation in nearly every weight class at the state meet.
The third-place team finish reflects the consistent growth of the program and the hard work put in throughout the season by both the athletes and coaching staff. With momentum from NorCal, the Cougars now turn their focus to the 3C2A State Championships this weekend at Sierra College, where they will look to compete with the best junior college wrestlers in California and continue building the proud tradition of Lassen College wrestling.
