Lassen Sweeps Butte in Rare Non-Conference Matchup Between Conference Rivals

In a rare non-conference clash between two Golden Valley Conference opponents, Lassen College made a strong statement with a dominant sweep over Butte College on September 6 at Delta College. The Cougars controlled the match from start to finish, posting a clean 3–0 victory (25–14, 25–19, 25–19) and improving their preseason record with confidence-building momentum.

Olive Chandler was unstoppable on the outside, hammering 15 kills on 26 swings and hitting an impressive .423. She also added 7 digs and a service ace to complete a standout performance. Mackenzee Sills added 7 kills and 10 digs, while Abby Robles provided a spark off the bench with 5 kills on 8 swings (.375). Setter Lucy Platz guided the Cougar attack with 23 assists and a kill of her own, while libero Pacey Harris anchored the defense with a match-high 16 digs.

Lassen's offense was efficient and clean, finishing with a .214 hitting percentage and only 16 errors on 84 swings. The Cougars also served effectively, racking up 5 aces and limiting themselves to just 5 service errors. Defensively, they recorded 51 digs and held Butte to a .000 team hitting percentage—an impressive feat against a familiar opponent.

Although this was technically a non-conference match, facing a league rival like Butte still carried extra intensity—and Lassen rose to the occasion. With solid execution, strong serving, and improved offensive rhythm, the Cougars continue to show growth as they approach the heart of their schedule.
