Lassen Falls to Strong Cabrillo Squad in Saturday Afternoon Match
In the final match of a packed weekend, Lassen College ran into a sharp Cabrillo team that proved too much to handle, falling in three sets (12–25, 13–25, 17–25) on September 6 at Delta College. Cabrillo came out firing from the service line and executed at a high level offensively, hitting .293 as a team, while limiting Lassen’s offensive rhythm throughout the match.
Despite the result, Olive Chandler continued to lead the Cougar attack, tallying 8 kills on 26 attempts and adding a service ace and 6 digs. Mackenzee Sills added 7 kills and 5 digs, and Lucy Platz distributed 14 assists while also scoring 4 aces. Pacey Harris anchored the defense once again with 14 digs, continuing her consistent back-row presence.
The Cougars struggled to find their offensive groove, finishing with 23 kills and 24 errors on 85 swings for a -.012 hitting percentage. Cabrillo’s aggressive serving and disciplined defense put Lassen on the defensive early and kept the pressure high. Still, several players contributed across the board, including Abby Robles (3 kills), Kennidi Smith (1 kill, 1 assist), and Vanessa Lott, who added 2 kills.
While the loss was a tough way to end the day, Lassen gained valuable experience against one of the stronger non-conference opponents they’ll face this season. The Cougars will regroup and use these lessons as they prepare for the rest of their pre-conference schedule.
