Lassen Battles in Four Sets, Drops Competitive Match to Coalinga

The Lassen College women’s volleyball team came out strong in the opening set against Coalinga on August 29 in Lemoore, taking a 25–21 win to start the match. Despite that early momentum, the Cougars couldn’t maintain their edge, ultimately falling in four sets (25–21, 17–25, 21–25, 23–25). It was another competitive outing that showed the team’s potential, with several standout performances on both sides of the ball.

Freshman outside hitter Makala Crosno led the Cougar offense with 7 kills on 24 swings, hitting .208 and also contributing 8 digs. Sophomore Mackenzee Sills stayed active at the net, adding 7 kills, 9 digs, 2 service aces, and a block. Olive Chandler was efficient in her limited sets, tallying 5 kills with a .111 hitting percentage. Lucy Platz continued to guide the offense with 17 assists while also chipping in 16 digs and 3 kills.

Defensively, Pacey Harris anchored the back row once again, leading the team with 11 digs. Ruby Dechambeau and Abigail Lynn each recorded a solo block, while the team collected 59 total digs to stay aggressive in long rallies. The Cougars also served tough, finishing with 5 aces, including two each from Harris and Sills.

Though Lassen came up short, the match highlighted the team's progress and continued fight in close sets. With competitive play in back-to-back matches, the Cougars are building strong early-season chemistry. They'll look to bounce back and apply the lessons from this match as they continue their road schedule.
