Lassen Drops Competitive Three-Set Match to Sacramento City

In their second match of the day on September 10, the Lassen College women’s volleyball team showed marked improvement but ultimately fell to Sacramento City in straight sets (12–25, 23–25, 20–25) on the road. After a slow start, the Cougars pushed back with tighter play in sets two and three, showing grit and flashes of offensive rhythm against a solid Panthers squad.

Olive Chandler delivered a standout performance, finishing with a team-high 11 kills on 24 attempts, hitting .292 while adding 11 digs and a solo block. Mackenzee Sills contributed 8 kills and 8 digs, and Vanessa Lott was efficient with 6 kills on 13 swings (.385). Setter Lucy Platz guided the Cougar offense with 19 assists, 3 service aces, and 6 digs. Pacey Harris anchored the defense with 16 digs.

Despite falling short, Lassen produced one of their better offensive outings of the season, finishing with a .176 hitting percentage on 85 attempts. The Cougars also served well, recording 6 aces and just 6 errors. Meleny Medina chipped in with 10 assists and 7 digs, and Abigail Lynn added 2 kills, a block, and a service ace to round out the team’s effort.

Though it didn’t result in a win, the match gave the Cougars valuable momentum. Their improved hitting efficiency, strong serve receive, and increased energy in the second and third sets were all promising signs as they continue building toward conference play.
