Cougars Battle Hard in Road Test at Monterey Peninsula

The Lassen College Volleyball team hit the road for their second contest of the 2025 season, squaring off with Monterey Peninsula on Friday night. The Cougars fought with determination in each set, but ultimately fell 3–0 (21–25, 18–25, 18–25). While the Lobos protected their home court, Lassen showed continued growth and competitiveness as the program works to build momentum early in the year.

Leading the way for the Cougars was sophomore Mackenzee Sills, who powered down 9 kills while adding 3 solo blocks. Freshman Olive Chandler followed closely behind with 5 kills and 2 service aces, while setter Lucy Platz distributed 14 assists and delivered a team-high 5 aces at the service line. Sophomore Pacey Harris added all-around production with 7 digs, a kill, and an ace to keep the Cougars in the fight.

Defensively, Lassen showed grit at the net and in the backcourt, finishing with 33 team digs. Harris, Chandler, and Sills anchored the defense, while freshman Kylie Kennedy provided a spark with 2 blocks in her collegiate debut. The Cougars’ ability to extend rallies and generate points off aggressive serving kept the sets tight and gave the Lobos little room for comfort.

This was an important early-season test for Lassen, who now turns its attention to building on these performances as Golden Valley Conference play approaches. With a balanced mix of experienced returners and hungry freshmen, the Cougars are continuing to set the standard for effort and pride in the orange and black.
