Lassen Outlasts West Valley in Five-Set Road Victory

After a tough earlier match against Fresno, the Lassen College women’s volleyball team bounced back in thrilling fashion, defeating West Valley College in a five-set battle (25–14, 18–25, 21–25, 25–21, 15–11) on the evening of September 5 in Stockton, CA. The Cougars showed resilience and composure under pressure, closing strong in the fourth and fifth sets to earn their third win of the season.

Olive Chandler led the Cougars offensively with 14 kills on 46 swings, hitting .217 and adding 8 digs in a complete performance. Mackenzee Sills followed with 9 kills and 12 digs, while Vanessa Lott contributed 8 kills and a solo block. Setter Lucy Platz was once again at the center of it all, tallying 27 assists, 5 service aces, and 8 digs while hitting .250 on 4 kills. Kennidi Smith, Abigail Lynn, and Ruby Dechambeau each added steady contributions to the attack and defense.

Defensively, Lassen was anchored by Pacey Harris, who recorded a team-high 18 digs and added 3 service aces. The Cougars collectively racked up 96 digs and 15 aces as a team, keeping West Valley’s offense off balance with consistent serving pressure and scrappy play in the backcourt. Dechambeau also stepped up with 29 digs in a strong defensive effort.

This win marks a strong finish to Lassen’s doubleheader day and provides a confidence boost moving forward. With multiple players contributing and the team showing the ability to close out tight matches, the Cougars are continuing to build momentum and chemistry as the non-conference schedule progresses.
