Bio
Amy Morris is in her fourth year of her second stint leading Lassen College’s indoor volleyball program and also serves as the head coach for Cougar Beach Volleyball, which she launched during her return. A proven builder of programs and a decorated player herself, Morris has elevated Cougar Volleyball to new heights while expanding opportunities for student-athletes in both indoor and beach competition.
Morris first coached at Lassen in 2013 and 2014, leading her 2014 team to a 17–9 record and a berth in the state playoffs. She returned in 2022 and wasted no time in making history. In her second season back, she guided the Cougars to a 28–5 record, setting school records in every statistical category and leading the state in wins. That season also marked several program firsts — hosting and winning the first playoff match in school history, advancing to the 3C2A Sweet 16, and producing the first All-State selection in program history, Catyon White, who went on to compete at the NCAA Division I level.
Before her time at Lassen, Morris served as Associate Director of Youth Sports and Recruiting Coordinator at Northern Nevada Juniors Volleyball Club in Reno, Nevada. Her collegiate coaching résumé includes positions at the University of Nevada, Tulane University (head coach of sand volleyball and associate head coach for indoor), Binghamton University, Nicholls State University, and College of the Southwest. At Tulane, she helped lead the program to the 2009 NCAA Tournament, landed a nationally recognized recruiting class, and coached the Conference USA Freshman of the Year.
As a player, Morris was a standout at the University of Tennessee, helping the Lady Vols to NCAA Tournament appearances in both her junior and senior years. In 2004, she was named Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year, First-Team All-SEC, Honorable Mention AVCA All-America, and MVP of the SEC Tournament after leading Tennessee to the conference title. That same year, the Lady Vols advanced to the NCAA Final Four. She was a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree and was inducted into the Tennessee Volleyball Hall of Fame for her collegiate achievements.
A native of Michigan City, Indiana, Morris was the 2001 Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year, a Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 selection, and an All-America honoree as a prep athlete. She began her collegiate career at Penn State before transferring to Tennessee, and later played professional volleyball in Indonesia and Puerto Rico.
Morris earned her bachelor’s degree in Advertising from Tennessee in 2006 and her master’s degree in Sports Management from SUNY-Cortland in 2009. She now lives in Susanville with her husband, Nathan Hallett — who also serves as her assistant coach — and their 6-year-old son, Kellen.
